This year in our school we set up a new programme called Rainbows. You may ask what is Rainbows? Rainbows is a programme to help all age's not just children. It helps in grieving a death, dealing with divorce, separation or any other painful transition in the family. The aim of Rainbows is to provide children with a belief in their own goodness and the value of their family. Rainbows is not a counseling or therapy programme. It is strictly a peer support group guided by caring trained adults. The children and adults are bound by confidentiality.
Rainbow meetings are held in school
The programme consists of twelve members with 'celebrate me' days.
Each group consists of three to five children or teenagers.
They participate in activities and discussions that focus on particular topics relevant to the changes that happen in families.
The goal of the support group is to assist children in expressing and understanding their feelings, accepting what has happened and experiencing a sense of belonging and love.
We hope this explains our programme. We are almost through our first programme and all children have shown a great response. They enjoy and look forward to it each week. We hope to start a new programme next year and hope it will be as successful. Thanks to all for the support.
